New Moon Breaking Box Office Records!

November 21, 2009

It’s the second day since The Twilight Saga: New Moon has been in theaters in the U.S and it has broken two (very impressive) all-time movie records!

Yes, you read that right, two! The first record New Moon broke was for the all-time midnight screenings at $26.27M in 3514 theaters. Which crushed The Dark Knight‘s $18.4M midnight debut for a 3-day weekend, which later brought in a total of $158.4M for the weekend. It also blew away the previous all-time record for midnight showings which was held by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which took in $22.2M on a Tuesday night on its way to a 5-day weekend total of $158M.

The second record New Moon broke was for the all-time single day box office record at $72.7M. Beating Transformers: Reven of the Fallen‘s $62M and the previous all-time single day box office holder, The Dark Knight which took in $67.17M.

With these very impressive numbers and dedicated fans, there is no doubt New Moon definitely has the chance of becoming the all-time biggest opening weekend movie ever. The top four Hollywood studio film New Moon would have to beat consists of: The Dark Knight (Warner Bros.) at $158.4M, Spider-Man 3 (Sony/Columbia) at $151.1M, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (Disney/Buena Vista) at $135.6M, and Shrek the Third (Paramount/Dreamworks) at $121.6M.

No matter what the totals turn out to be, New Moon will be the biggest opening of all-time for an independent film, and almost guaranteed to be the #1 non-summer 3-day weekend opening of all-time.

Have you seen the movie yet? If you did, how did you like the movie and what was your favorite scene? Leave your thoughts here!
