‘Twilight’ Lawsuit: OMG That’s Our Moonlit Forest!

by OhEmGee on February 8, 2010

This seems kind of silly, but TMZ is now reporting that the company who produced Twilight, Summit Entertainment, is now suing, Topics Entertainment, after their “Forks: Biten By Twilight” cover art proves to appear very similar to the trademarked art from the “Twilight In Forks: The Saga of the Real Town” and is therefore deceptive.

Summit owns the trademark to the stylized Twilight trademark which makes perfect sense as to why they’d want to protect it. Summit also claims the defendant, Topics Entertainment, sent copies of a flyer to Best Buy, Sam’s Club and Target, advertising its own documentary titled, “Forks: Bitten By Twilight.”

Ouch! Topics Entertainment has something coming for them alright, Summit wants to put a quick end to the Topics documentary, asking a judge for an injunction and all sorts of damages.

Thoughts?! Do you think Summit is taking it overboard or is what they’re doing make sense? Let us know in the comments section!

They are totally taking it overboard. Out of al the crappy twilight crap that’s out there, they complain about this? It doesn’t make any sense to me. And don’t they have enough money already?!?!

It’s called intellectual property for those of you who think it’s ok to steal someone’s ideas and run with them. It’s not done as a parody which is harder to sue against. But to steal someones ideas, market them to make money is a CRIME. So no, Summit is not going overboard with what is theirs. Especially since no one else wanted the product, MTV passed on it and they purchased it, produced it, marketed it and deserve to be paid for what is theirs. That movie logo isn’t even Stephanie Meyer’s. It belongs to Summit. So all of you Twilight haters just have to learn a hard lesson and understand the laws regarding the entertainment business especially regarding the protection of intellectual property. GO SUMMIT, I hope you win and win big.
